Barangaroo South will welcome a sister building for its super-sustainable engineered timber International House Sydney, with planning approval granted for Daramu House.
Meaning “tree house” in local Dharug and Eora language, Daramu House will be the company’s sixth engineered timber building in Australia, joining International House Sydney, Brisbane’s 25 King St, Melbourne’s Forte Apartments and Library at The Dock, and Western Sydney’s Jordan Springs Community Hub.
It will feature six levels of office space over 10,000 square metres and ground level retail tenancies making up 680 sq m.
Aside from the use of engineered timber in the form of cross-laminated timber and glulam, sustainability features include solar PV and rooftop planting to capture rain.
Last year, Lendlease said there was an “aspirational target” of a 75 per cent reduction in operational energy use.

Other sustainability features mentioned included:
- double-glazed, high-performance glass on the facade, along with sun shading
- LED lighting
- low-VOC materials
- passive chilled beams and connection to the precinct district cooling plant
- connection to the non-potable water supply from the recycled water treatment plant for flushing toilets
- bike parking and end-of-trip facilities
Barangaroo South managing director Rob deck said the building would also prioritise wellness.
“Daramu House will provide tenants with health and wellbeing benefits combined with a warm, clean and natural environment,” he said.
Engineering is being done by the company’s DesignMake business, and the building is set to be complete in late 2019.
