GECA is looking for a new chief executive officer now that Kate Harris has decided to pull up stumps for greener pastures after four years in the job. The not-for-profit environmental certification organisation is in a good place and she’s in a good place to start the next gig, Harris told The Fifth Estate.
Ms Harris said she’s proud of her contribution to growing GECA’s reputation and credibility as an ecolabelling scheme for building materials and other products.
In her time at the organisation, the ecolabel has become a recognisable force in supply chains.
She said the new CEO will ride the next wave of energy sweeping the sustainability sector.
“It’s a phenomenal sector that’s driving change, and you don’t get that from many sectors.”
General manager Michelle Thomas will be interim CEO during the recruitment process.
Local Government Super
Change is also under way at Local Government Super, the major superannuation fund with a strong track record in sustainability, including a commitment to taking its portfolio to net zero operating carbon emissions by 2030 and pushing for all building stock to be net zero by 2050.
In recent news, Phil Stockwell has been named new chief executive officer, replacing interim CEO Donna Heffernan who was deputy CEO and stepped in early this year when David Smith resigned from that position after just 18 months in the job. Mr Smith was replacing long term incumbent Peter Lambert who had had headed the organisation for 10 years.
Mr Stockwell comes from C-suite roles at Asian investment management firm Eastspring Investments, which manages more than US$188 billion [AUD$277.19] in equity, fixed income, multi-asset and alternative strategies on behalf of UK-insurance company Prudential. Ms Heffernan will resume her former role.
Phil Goodfellow has started a new position at ERM Power as national key account manager. He joins the company after seven year at Out Performers, which are energy measurement and verification specialists.
EDOs join forces
The eight separate state and territory Environmental Defenders Offices have joined forces as one national environmental law centre.
The organisation now claims to be the largest environmental legal centre in the southern hemisphere.
The integration makes sense when you consider that environmental problems aren’t bound by state or territory lines, as pointed out by the chief executive officer of the national EDO, David Morris.
“The Murray-Darling crisis spans four jurisdictions. Our iconic koalas are dying right up and down the east coast. Climate change doesn’t stop at any border.”
The green wall experts at Junglefy celebrated their 10th birthday last week. The company, founded by husband and wife team Jock and Hanna Gammo, has gone from strength to strength in that time, now employing 41 staff.
